For our sixth anniversary, we decided we were well overdue for a romantic getaway. We didn't think we were going to get one, but the stars aligned, and we were able to rent a beach house in the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a week. The last time we were able to get away for our anniversary was four years ago, so this was quite a treat. Thankfully, all the hurricanes and tropical storms cooperated.
We had a great little cottage that was just the right size for the two of us. We weren't right on the ocean, but we didn't mind at all. In fact, I thought it was kind of nice to have a little waking space between us. It was supposed to rain almost every day that we were there, but we really only had one day that was a complete washout. Being vacation, though, we really didn't mind the excuse to sit around, watch DVDs and play video games for a day. I think we made at least one small trip to the beach every day except the day it rained.
Aside from beach trips, we made a visit to Kitty Hawk Kites (which may just be ground zero for those OBX stickers.) We also went down to Manteo for an afternoon and visited the aquarium, which was a lot of fun. We went to the craziest mini golf course we've ever seen (though we're used to Lynnhaven Golf Park, so that's not saying much.) We took plenty of food, but ended up eating out much more than we planned due to all the great looking restaurants around. The first few days we were there, every time we took a trip from the house, the satellite radio would play the Miami Vice theme. It got to be a running joke. We know it was coincidence, but it was awesome nonetheless. Imagine tooling down the road, the ocean on one side and the sound on the other, listening to the beachy sounds of Jan Hammer.
All too quickly, it was time to come home. Hopefully, we won't have to wait four years to do it again.
